Updates on City of San José Services and/or Operations
  • Small Business Ally Webinar: The City of San José is offering a free online webinar Thursday, Oct. 14, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. as part of its Small Business Ally Program. The webinar will explain: 

    • City grants for upgrades and improvements 
    • How to sell your home-cooked food 
    • How to get a permit and timely inspections 
    • How to ensure handicapped access 
    • And much more!

    City of San José’s Small Business Allies Juan Borrelli and Xuan Ha will lead the webinar and answer questions. The webinar will be offered in English with simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Vietnamese and Mandarin. Registration is required.
Updates from the Federal Government
  • CDC Recommends Vaccination for Those Recovered from COVID-19: The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has issued a recommendation for those unvaccinated individuals who have recovered from COVID-19 to get fully vaccinated. Those who were treated for COVID-19 with monoclonal antibodies or convalescent plasma, should wait 90 days before getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
Updates from Santa Clara County
  • Criteria for Lifting Indoor Masking Requirements: Health officers for Santa Clara County and the other Bay Area jurisdictions recently issued criteria to be met in order to lift COVID-19 indoor masking requirements. The requirement will be lifted when all the following occur:

    • The jurisdiction reaches the moderate (yellow) COVID-19 transmission tier, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and remains there for at least three weeks, and 
    • COVID-19 hospitalizations in the jurisdiction are low and stable, in the judgment of the health officer, and 
    • 80% of the jurisdiction’s total population is fully vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of Johnson & Johnson 
      OR
    • Eight weeks have passed since a COVID-19 vaccine has been authorized for emergency use by federal and state authorities for 5- to 11-year-olds.

    Progress towards these requirements includes:

    • As of October 13, the jurisdiction of Santa Clara County is in the substantial (orange) COVID-19 transmission tier; 
    • As of October 8, 72.6% of the total population in the jurisdiction of Santa Clara County was fully vaccinated with two doses of Pfizer or Moderna or one dose of Johnson & Johnson; and 
    • As of October 13, no authorization for emergency use for 5- to 11-year-olds has been authorized. 
  • 2021 VaxUp Video Contest for 6th to 12th graders: Empower your peers to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Enter the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department’s 2021 VaxUp Video Contest to help address misinformation and normalize COVID-19 vaccines. All 6th to 12th graders who are currently attending school in Santa Clara County can enter the contest. Visit www.sccVaxUpVideo.org for details on how to enter. 
COVID-19 Vaccine, Testing, Tracing, and Support Services
  • Get Vaccinated Sunday at Roosevelt Community Center: Protect yourself and others by getting the COVID-19 vaccine this Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Roosevelt Community Center, 901 E. Santa Clara St. in San José, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Delta variant is still prevalent in the area and especially dangerous for the unvaccinated. City staff will be onsite to provide information on housing and rental assistance. Staff will also be available to support language needs and disability access. No appointment is necessary. Vaccines are free, safe, and effective!
  • No Appointment Necessary for COVID-19 Vaccinations: The vaccine clinic locations listed below do not require advance appointments. Vaccines are free, and no insurance or proof of immigration status is required. Anyone age 12 or older is eligible. Staff will be onsite to support language needs and disability access. Individuals seeking vaccination are encouraged to arrive at least one hour before closing time. Additional clinic dates and locations are added frequently, check www.sccfreevax.org for the most up-to-date information.     Booster shots are available at all listed sites to those who received Pfizer for their second dose at least six months ago and meet CDC eligibility criteria. Third doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines are available for severely immunocompromised people at least 28 days after their second dose.

    County test sites provide COVID-19 tests free of charge, regardless of immigration status, and no doctor’s note is needed. For people without COVID-19 symptoms, the County currently offers indoor and drive-through sites. People with symptoms are directed to drive-through sites to reduce the chance of getting others sick.
     
    All healthcare systems are required by the County order to offer free testing to symptomatic persons, persons who have been exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case, and all essential workers. For more information on testing rights, see our Frequently Asked Questions page
     
    All test sites are mapped on the County’s website at www.sccfreetest.org. The site is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Tagalog. Information is also available by calling 2-1-1.
