Governor Newsom issues Executive Order to protect renters and homeowners during COVID-19 Pandemic. The Executive Order authorizes local governments to halt evictions, slows foreclosures, and protects against utility shutoffs.
This afternoon, the San José City Council will consider a local ordinance that establishes a moratorium on non-payment of rent evictions for tenants with incomes affected by COVID-19. Mayor Liccardo proposed this urgency ordinance to prevent families from being evicted from their homes during this public health crisis.
Updates on City of San José Services and/or Operations
- Bilingual Information from the County on Sheltering in Place and Essential Businesses: Santa Clara County has posted bilingual Frequently Asked Questions in English and Spanish on their website which provides information on how to comply with the orders issued on March 16 by six Bay Area counties that includes “Shelter in Place” for all residents and details on the types of businesses that may continue operations. - Development Services Permit Center: In response to Santa Clara County's Public Health mandatory “Shelter in Place” order issued March 16, the Permit Center and Development Services Offices will work remotely to continue services starting March 17. Staff will handle permits, development review, and plan review electronically and with video conferencing. Building inspections will continue on housing construction projects and limited inspection on other types of projects. Code Enforcement Inspectors will only respond to emergency inspections. - Mineta San Jose International Airport and Airline updates: Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) remains open. For current updates on flight status and cancelations check with your airline directly.
- San Jose Libraries: All San Jose library locations are closed to the public until further notice. Library cardholders can still access online services by visiting sjpl.org. A new eLibrary Card has been made available for anyone who wants to become a member.
