The instructions below cover:

  • Resubmittal of Corrected Plans - After your initial submittal of project plans, staff may direct you to make corrections or to provide additional information. If this is the case, please follow the instructions below.

  • Submittal of Revisions to Permitted Plans - You may have plans that require revisions after the permit has been issued. If this is the case, please follow the instructions below.
  • Online Permits at SJPermits.org - If you would like to request a revision to simple permits issued online at SJPermits.org, please contact us

instructions - reSubmittal of corrected plans

Follow these steps if you have already submitted your plans and staff is asking you to resubmit the plans with corrections. Reminder these instructions ONLY apply if you did NOT submit your plans original through SJePlans. If you did submit originally through SJePlans, you should upload your resubmitted plans through that system with the instructions here: SJEPLANS FOR BUILDING PERMITS APPLICATIONS (see Applicant Respond and Resubmit Task).

  1. Plans are separated by trade. Plan files must be separated by trade: architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing, etc. EXCEPTION: For single-family home projects, the plans do not need to be separated by trade.

  2. File formatting. Be sure to format all files according to Bulletin 227 Electronic Plan Review - File Format Requirements.

  3. Response-to-Comments letter. Provide a letter containing the response to the City plan reviewer’s comments. Please send the email directly to the person/email indicated in the instructions on the comment letter that was provided. Each set of trade drawings must have such a letter if comments were made pertaining to that trade.

HOW TO RESUBMIT CORRECTED PLANS

  • Responding to Building or MEP trade comments: Follow the directions on the comment response letter.
  • Responding to Public Works comments: Email the Public Works plan reviewer

instructions - submittal of REVISIONS TO PERMITTED PLANS

Follow these steps if you already have a permit issued for your project plans and now want to revise your plans. Depending on the scope of work, the submittal may be a complete set of revised plans or only the sheets that have been revised.

  1. Revision Transmittal Form must accompany the revised plans. Please separate your plan files by trade: Architectural, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, etc. EXCEPTION: For single-family home projects, the plans do not need to be separated by trade. Include the appropriate Revision Transmittal Form with your submittal package:

  2. Written Scope of Revisions. Provide a written Scope of Revisions — which is an itemized description — for each set of plans.
