Sometimes the hardest part of being a loving pet owner is making the decision to have your pet humanely euthanized. We accept owned pets for euthanasia when the pet is suffering from a medical condition, life-threatening injury, or poses a safety risk to other pets or people because of its behavior.

$50.00 per animal.

Disposal Fee

$25.00 per animal if unlicensed.
No charge if animal has current license.

We accept ONLY owned pets for non-emergency euthanasia Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Non-emergency includes animals whose pain is currently managed or who are NOT experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency.

Policy on Surrender

Medical emergency include animals who have suffered a traumatic injury or who have suddenly become ill and no veterinary care can be provided due to an owner’s inability to provide care. Animals suffering from a medical emergency as describe above can bring their pets to the center any day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for euthanasia of their pet. Person with pets in non-emergency situations are requested to surrender their pets during regular business hours.

We cannot accept pets for euthanasia from people who are not the actual owners of the pet. Friends, family or other people may not request euthanasia of an animal for anyone else.

Euthanasia may not be guaranteed. In some circumstances, animals may be evaluated by shelter staff and placed for adoption or rescue.

Animals with any behavior or medical conditions may only be surrendered for euthanasia and may not be surrendered for placement.

Owners are not permitted to be present during the euthanasia of their pet.

Pets must either be left with us for disposal or the owner may take the body after euthanasia. The pet’s remains will no longer be retrievable after disposal.

Cremation Services

We do not provide cremation services. However, we can provide low-cost euthanasia for your ill or aggressive pet at our facility and the owner can then transport their body elsewhere for cremation.

If you would like to be present during euthanasia of your pet we recommend you either take your pet to your veterinarians or the Humane Society of Silicon Valley https://www.hssv.org/services/end-of-life-resources/#euthanasia. Both options can provide cremation services for additional fees.

Euthanasia Process

Animals are euthanized by highly trained staff members certified to perform animal euthanasia. Pets who are nervous or scared are provided with an injection of anesthetic. The pet falls asleep within five minutes. Once the pet is sleeping, he is given an injection of sodium pentobarbital which immediately shuts down the pet’s central nervous system. The pet’s heart stops beating and the pet stops breathing within seconds of receiving the injection. The process of the medication working in the pet’s system is completely painless. After the injection is given, the technician verifies that the pet has passed away.
