How to Apply for a Marriage License
The City of San José does not provide marriage licenses. Marriage licenses may be obtained from the Office of the County Clerk-Recorder with the County of Santa Clara. For more information, please visit the Office of the County Clerk-Recorder.
Wedding Ceremonies
Civil wedding services are non-religious legal marriage ceremonies performed by a government official or registrar. The City of San José does not have officiants or a registrar to preside over wedding ceremonies. Couples may either provide their own officiant for their wedding ceremony at City Hall or schedule a time with the County of Santa Clara to have a designated officiant provided to them.
Couples may schedule with the Santa Clara County Clerk-Recorder’s office to have a civil wedding ceremony held in a private and decorated ceremony room. Ceremonies are scheduled from Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 10:30am and 3:40pm. For more information, visit the County website.
Wedding Ceremonies at City Hall
The Rotunda at San José City Hall can serve as your wedding destination for ceremonies and/or receptions. The structure is a modern architectural beauty stretching 110 feet high with terrazzo flooring and glass surroundings flowing with natural light. The building is like a blank canvas lending itself to any wedding design.
