SJePlans is the new platform used by the City’s Development Services partners for submitting project plans electronically and obtaining review and comments. The Fire Prevention Bureau now processes the following two permits through SJePlans:

• Fire Special System Permits
• Hazardous Materials System Permits

We will no longer accept paper plans with postal dates marked March 8, 2020 or later. If we receive plans after this date,  we will contact you by email and provide instructions on how to submit plans using the new SJePlans system.

• Submit a Fire Special System Permit Application or Hazardous Materials Systems Permit Application by visiting Fire Development (Construction) Permit Appointments to start the process.
• We will email you instructions on how to proceed.
• Note that in SJePlans, each plan sheet needs to be saved in separate files per San Jose Fire Department SJePlans File Naming Conventions.

SJePlans Instructional Videos:

1. How to Submit Fire Application and Upload to SJePlans: This video provides an introduction into the San José Fire Department (Fire) SJePlans electronic plan review system and describes the systems, which Fire Permits are applicable, how to prepare files using Fire’s file naming convention for future uploading to the site, how to apply for a Fire Permit, and receiving invitation to upload.
2. How to Respond to Prescreen and Plan Review Comments: This video continues from the first video after uploading a file and then describes the project prescreening process and resubmittals for plan review, the file naming convention process, and assigning projects.
3. SJePlans Plan Approval Process: This video continues from the second video. It further discusses further responding to comments and markups, and retrieving plans once complete.
