Fire Development Intake Appointments
Schedule Appointments for submitting applications for Fire and Hazardous Materials Special System Permit Submittals and to ask for assistance
Two Fire Development Services Permit Submittal Appointment Services
1. Appointments for general fire construction project questions and to apply for Fire and Hazardous Materials Systems Permits, please choose one:
Virtual Fire General Appointment - A Fire Permit Specialist will connect with you via email to discuss your submittal, screen share and assist with information on using SJePlans.
In-Person Fire General Appointment - To speak to Fire Staff, you can schedule an appointment, but you will require a media device if you are completing an application submittal to upload using SJePlans.
2. Appointments dedicated only to Fire Sprinklers, Fire Alarms, or Hazardous Materials Systems Permits, please choose one:
Virtual Fire or Hazardous Materials System Permit Appointment - Dedicated to permit application processing. A Fire Permit Specialist will connect with you via email to discuss your submittal, screen share, and assist with information on using SJePlans.
In-Person Fire-Hazardous Materials System Permit Appointment - To speak to Fire Staff, you can schedule an appointment, but you will require a media device if you are completing an application submittal to upload using SJePlans.
Express Fire Special Systems Plan Review Appointments
There are now Fire Systems Express Appointments on special days dedicated to express plan review for smaller projects. Visit Fire Development Express Permit Appointments to schedule these appointments.

Fire and Hazmat inspections can also be scheduled online at Schedule a Fire Inspection.

- Please be ready with complete and accurate plans, applications, and documents for a successful project submittal.
- Have your media device, such as a laptop, with you during this appointment to upload files or go to websites, as needed.
- Have payment readily available
- Visit Fire SJePlans for details and training videos
- For Permit Application visit Fire Special Systems Permit Application or Hazardous Materials Systems Permit Application to download appropriate applications.
- San José Fire Department is no longer accepting paper plans.
