The Apartment Rent Ordinance (Chapter 17.23.010) allows tenants living in rent stabilized apartments to file petitions with the City when they have concerns about their apartments or leases. Petitions may be based on illegal rent increases (Code 17.23.310), habitability issues, or service reductions (Code 17.23.136). Petitions may be submitted in English, Spanish, or Vietnamese.
The City's Rent Stabilization Program has analyzed and mapped the petitions submitted from July 1, 2020 through March 31, 2021. The goals of this mapping project were to:
- Gain a better understanding of the areas across the City where tenants are filing petitions; and
- Visualize the data in a way that may assist the Housing Department and policy makers when they conduct community outreach.
