Beginning Pay Period 8 (March 25, 2018 - April 7, 2018), Tier 2B and Police and Fire Tier 2 employees contribute to the VEBA as shown below:

*CalPERS Classic employees in the Federated System hired after September 27, 2013, sworn Police employees hired after August 4, 2013, and sworn Fire employees hired after January 2, 2015 are also mandated to join the VEBA.

• Participants are assessed an asset-based fee of 0.03% or 3 basis points.
• Active City employees/non claim active account holders have a $6 annual fee assessed.
• Claims active participants have a $30 annual fee assessed.
• The VEBA Advisory Committee will be reviewing the additional "add-on" fee that is assessed to support plan operations in March 2024.  That fee is currently 0.15% or 15 basis points. 

If you have retired from the City of San Jose or separated from City Service and reached retirement age(Age 50 for Sworn, 55 for Federated), you are eligible to begin utilizing your VEBA funds.

Employees may have irrevocably elected to participate in the VEBA if they are in Tier 1 or Federated Tier 2A.  After you elect to participate in the VEBA, your previous employee retiree healthcare contributions (without interest) will be placed into your individual VEBA account.
