jONATHAN fLEMING - CHIEF OF STAFF

Jonathan graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has lived in Santa Clara County since 2001. He is a parent, engineer, local businessman, and has a substantial background in community service including his City Council campaign for San Jose. A highly experienced community leader, consultant, neighbor, parent and husband.

Over ten years ago, Jonathan became disabled when he was struck by a drunk driver, and he was told that he would never walk again without a wheelchair or a walker. Jonathan defied the odds and found a new purpose in life as he continues to overcome his disability. His rehabilitation has included 27 surgeries and procedures, daily physical therapy, and more. After regaining the ability to walk, he created his own company, was elected Vice Chair of the San José Neighborhoods Commission, and has been a member of other boards including United Neighborhoods of Santa Clara County and the California High Speed Rail Working Group. Jonathan never gives up and creates opportunities for success.

He has a strong track record of success in building enterprise value through improved product engineering, business process improvement, and strong sales. Distinctive history of being an effective change agent and achieving outstanding results in complex and demanding environments. Substantial experience in technology, public government, and professional services.

GRACE KOLANDER - COUNCIL POLICY AND LEGISLATIVE DIRECTOR

Grace Kolander is the Policy and Legislative Director for District 7. She has been working on Policy since joining the City in 2017. She received her Bachelor’s in Criminology and Criminal Justice Studies from Sonoma State University and went on to get her Master’s Degree in Justice Studies from San Jose State University.

When she doesn’t have her nose buried in research you can find her with her two young children who are the light of her life.

Jimena landaverde - council assistant

Jimena was born and raised in San Jose, California, where her passion for community and public service took root. She pursued her education at San Jose State University, graduating in 2023 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Economics. 

Eager to make a tangible impact in her hometown, Jimena embarked on her career journey by joining the office of District 7 in January 2024. This role marks her first job out of college, allowing her to directly engage with the community she grew up in, channeling her enthusiasm and knowledge to address local issues and advocate for positive change.

VikitA Sharda - Executive ASSISTANT

Vikita Sharda, a dedicated and driven professional, began her career with the City of San Jose in January 2024 as an Executive Assistant for District 7. Equipped with a bachelor’s degree in political science and a minor in justice studies from San Jose State University, she brings a deep understanding of governance, policy, and social justice to her role.

During her time at San Jose State, Vikita actively engaged in academic and extracurricular pursuits, honing her analytical skills and passion for public service. Now, as a young professional, she is committed to making a meaningful impact in her community through her work in municipal government.
