The annual Safe Communities Summit brings together representatives from the City of San José, local non-profit organizations, and San José residents to build and grow partnerships that help make San José’s community spaces safe, fun, and healthy for people of all ages to enjoy.
San José residents that would like to get more information about City services and other community resources are invited to attend the summit.
All ages are welcome. Breakfast, lunch, and children’s activities will be provided.

Culture: Impacts of Culture on Youth and Communities | This is an introduction to the transformational healing philosophy “La Cultura Cura” that supports youth with building connections with adolescent youth, provide them a safe place to discuss their personal experiences while building teachings to maintain healthy connections with their personal circles, and provide positive adult kinship mentors that honor the teachings and serve as examples. The interactive session will acknowledge the realities that adolescent youth experience daily, provide an understanding on how their traumatic experiences impact their relationships, learn practical tools to build connections with adolescent, and help participants make a commitment to integrate healing informed services into their agencies. |
Mental Health: The Impacts on Youth, Trends and Resources |

An interactive workshop with a discussion to help youth define their boundaries with peers and adults in their life. Topics will include self-esteem, healthy and unhealthy relationships, consent, dating violence, and effective communication skills. |
Empowering Youth: Knowing Your Rights |
Join Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) for an interactive workshop focused on empowering youth with the knowledge of their rights. This session is thoughtfully designed to equip youth with the understanding they need to navigate potential interactions with law enforcement. During this workshop, participants will learn actionable steps they can take during an encounter with law enforcement to maximize the likelihood of a safe and positive outcome. Additionally, we'll explore what actions can be taken after an incident in case one's rights have been violated. |
Parent Support Strategies: Building Resilience to Manage Stressors in Your Life |
Learn about effective communication skills, how to cope with stress, how to solve problems and how to build your support network. Hear from staff with lived experience from three different agencies to learn about practical ways to be your best self to support your children/ youth. |
