Tracking development across the City is a key function of the Planning Division. Here are reports, dashboards, and maps that show San José's development activity:
- Activity Highlights & Five-Year Forecast Report - Issued annually:
- Shows major residential and non-residential development activity in San José's 15 Planning Areas;
- Shows construction valuations by sector; and
- Forecasts future levels of development activity. The City's Budget Office uses this information to estimate future construction-related tax revenues that help fund the City's Capital Improvement Program.
- Hotel Development - View local hotel and motel development activity.
- Key Economic Development Projects Map - This interactive map includes data for current major development projects by sector: Housing, Affordable Housing, Hotels, Commercial, Office, Mixed-Use, and more.
- New Planning Applications - Shows the weekly listing of newly filed planning project applications and archives these listings from 2017 to the current year.
- Permit Statistics & Permit Maps - Includes:
- ADU Permit Activity Dashboards - Accessory dwelling unit permit data since 2015
- Tables and graphs tracking the following data annually since 1980:
- Building Permits Map - Shows active building permits and building permits issued in the last 30 days.
- Planning Permits Map - Shows open planning permits and those from the last 180 days.
- Vacant Land Inventory - The vacant land inventory provides an overview on the rate of development of vacant land in San José, and the amount of remaining vacant land within the City's Urban Service Area.
