Geological Hazard Review
Geologic Hazard Clearance (GHC)
These are areas of San José where potential geologic hazards such as fault rupture or slope instability may impact a proposed development. For development sites located within a City Geologic Hazard Zone or within the State of California Seismic Hazard Zone of Required Investigation for Earthquake Induced Landslides, a Geologic Hazard Clearance must be obtained from the Director of Public Works. As part of the Geologic Hazard Clearance, Geotechnical studies and geologic hazard mitigation measures may be required. This makes sure that the proposed construction will not be potentially endangered by geologic hazards and that the proposed project will not create an unsafe condition.
The Geologic Hazard Clearance is needed prior to any discretionary approval for development, including site development, special use, lot line adjustment, zoning approval, grading or building permits.
Geologic Clearance (GC)
For development sites located within a State of California Seismic Hazard Zone of Required Investigation for Liquefaction, a Geologic Clearance approval must be obtained from the City of Geologist prior issuance of a grading or building permit.
