Living Wage
IMPORTANT:
For contracts advertised and entered into between July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025, the hourly wage rates will be:
$26.73 per hour (if health benefits are offered)
$27.98 per hour (if health benefits are not offered)
Living Wage rates shall be adjusted every July 1. The new rate must be paid regardless of when contract was advertised or entered into.
The Living Wage Policy provides worker rights on City service contracts that fall under 18 covered categories. These rights include requirements for worker's hourly rate of pay, health insurance offering, compensated time off, job security, and labor peace. The service contract must be over $20,000 and awarded through a competitive bidding process in order for the Policy to apply. For contracts in which both living wage and prevailing wage apply, the higher rate of the two must be paid to workers.
Living Wage rates are adjusted annually on July 1. See a History of San José Living Wage Rates for details on past rates. For Policy questions, contact the Office of Equality Assurance at (408) 535-8430 or email oea@sanjoseca.gov.
