About the Community Forest Management Plan (CFMP)
Trees are a critically important part of our city's infrastructure. Trees make the city a healthier, more beautiful place. They provide shade, beautify the city, and improve air and water quality. The community forest also provides property value increases worth $239.3 million annually.
But San José’s community forest is suffering. Citywide tree canopy cover has decreased from 15.36 percent in 2012 to 13.54 percent in 2018. That’s 2.7 square miles of tree canopy cover!
The Community Forest Management Plan (CFMP) studies how we currently manage those trees and lays out a roadmap for restoring our San José community forest. Read the CFMP or review the updates and resources below to learn more.
