Story-Keyes Bikeway Project
Project Description
The Story-Keyes Complete Streets Project plans to add safety improvements for people who walk, roll, bike, and drive. Story Road is one street in San José that has high amounts fatal and severe crashes. And traffic safety improvements can help us slow down a busy street.
The project, which runs from Third Street to King Road, and will add the following improvements:
- Raised bikeways
- Protected intersections
- Transit boarding islands
- Wayfindings signs
- Street lighting upgrades
The project connects with adjacent streets to improve safety and comfort for all those who use Story Road.
City Goals
The Story-Keyes Bikeway Project is supported by the following City plans:
- Vision Zero San José
- Reduce and eliminate severe injuries and deaths
- Enhance safety for people who walk and bike
- 2025 Better Bike Plan
- Safety: Increase safety for all people biking in San José and align with Vision Zero San José
- Mode shift: Increase the number of trips made by bike in San José
- Equity: Apply the plan in a way that serves historically underserved communities
Timeline
- PA&ED environmental phase: March 31, 2024
- Design: July 1, 2025
- Bid and award: June 21, 2027
- Right of way: June 21, 2027
- Construction: September 30, 2028
- Project end date: December 31, 2029
