Project Description
The Willow-Keyes Project is part of the Climate Smart San José Plan. It is situated south of downtown San José. This project will aim to create new safety measures along Lelong Street up to Third Street.
Improvements include:
- Reduce four-travel lane streets to two lanes
- Close critical sidewalks and bike lane gaps
- Redesign two complex intersections along Willow Street with roundabouts
- Enhanced crosswalks
- Pedestrian lighting
- New trees
- Curb extensions
- Upgrade existing traffic signals

- The plan includes transportation projects that create more efficient and environmentally friendly forms of public transportation.
Timeline
- December 2024: Final design complete
- June 2026: Construction complete

Funding
The project is funded by the Active Transportation Program (ATP) Grant and by local match funds.
The ATP grant, which is a federal grant, focuses on:
- Increasing the use of public transportation, walking, and biking
- Projects that benefit disadvantaged communities
