Pavement MAINTENANCE Program
By 2028, we will maintain or repave approximately 2,000 of San José streets. This includes every mile of our local and neighborhood streets, where most San Joséans live. Our Pavement Maintenance Program also includes most of our major street network, which carries most of our traffic.
Lots of repaving means frequent parking restrictions, multiple detours, dust, and noise. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we bring new life to hundreds of miles of San José streets!
Track pavement maintenance
Want to know when your street is getting paved? Check out our pavement story map, which shows our work as it progresses, including scheduled streets, work in progress, and streets we've completed work on this year. The map also has a tab showing the next three years of paving projects mapped out, with streets we expect to pave through 2025. Each year, we will update this three-year forecast. Paving starts in May and continues through November, weather permitting.
Streets and schedules are subject to change due to a variety of factors, including weather, conflicting construction projects, and other unforeseen circumstances.

Bridge Maintenance
We own and maintain 165 vehicular bridges that carry traffic on city streets.
- To report damaged bridge railings, deck surfaces, fencing, or sidewalk on or near a vehicular bridge, please call (408) 794-1900.
- The City also owns and maintains pedestrian bridges often found in parks or near schools. To report damage to a pedestrian bridge, please contact the Neighborhood Parks Division at (408) 793-5510.
Rubberized Asphalt
The 2022 arterial resurfacing projects were partially funded by a grant from CalRecycle. By using rubberized hot mix approximately 209,772 California waste tires were diverted from the waste stream by this project.
