As 2022 advances, so does the renewal of the Residential Permit Parking (RPP) program. Close to a dozen RPP zones were slowly reactivated during the last half of 2021. Now, we are preparing to gradually reinstate the remaining RPP zones. The final phase includes the following zones:
- Berryessa
- Cadillac
- Century/Winchester
- Civic Center
- Eden
- Hoffman
- Lynhaven
- Market/Almaden
- Santana
- Sherman Oaks
- Via Monte
- West Berryessa
The RPP program is now virtual. Residents who live in the listed RPP zones can apply online for an electronic parking permit starting on Monday, February 28. Online permitting allows for contactless application, payment, and permit management activities. Virtual permits also mean no more lost permit fees and no more getting cited because you forgot to display your permit.
Instead of looking for permit stickers and hang tags, Parking Compliance Officers will scan your license plate number to confirm you have a valid permit on file. Once established, your online RPP account will allow you to easily manage in real-time all your permits, including your guest permits.
Virtual permits help cut down on permit abuse, including fake permits and the unauthorized resale or transfer of permits. This helps to ensure the RPP Program remains effective and parking is available to our customers. Eliminating hang tags reduces plastic waste. And it prevents air pollution related to shipping and mailing these tags.
Letters with instructions on how to register, purchase, and manage permits are being mailed to all RPP customers on Monday, February 28. For more information about the program, please visit the RPP FAQs webpage. And keep up with further announcements at www.sanjoseca.gov/RPP.
