Licensed Care Facilities

Regulation of Care Facilities

All state-licensed care facilities require a fire safety inspection to operate. The Department of Social Services and Community Care Licensing initiate this process when they submit a fire safety inspection request form (STD 850) to the local fire authority. The San José Fire Department Bureau of Fire Prevention conducts fire safety inspections for all licensed facilities that operate within its jurisdictional boundaries.

Fire Clearance

Once your STD 850 form is received and processed by the Bureau of Fire Prevention, an inspector will contact you to schedule an inspection. Before scheduling your inspection, please contact the City of San José Department of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement to verify that the building is approved for its intended use. You will be required to provide detailed information to ensure the occupancy meets all applicable State and local codes and ordinances before your fire safety inspection can be completed.
