The information here focuses on multiple housing properties, including apartments, hotels, motels, fraternities, sororities, emergency shelters, residential service facilities, and those residential care facilities that have seven or more persons.

Find key information on these pages as follows:

  • Inspection Service Tiers - Explains how our Multiple Housing Inspection Program works across three service tiers, each with a specific inspection cycle. You can find the tier assignment for a property at the Multiple Housing Roster.

  • Residential Occupancy Permit - Explains fees per service tier and payment options for the permit to be paid by Multiple Housing property owners: The annual invoice is due in December. Most owners renew on time.

  • Prepare for Inspection - Provides the inspection checklist and preparation tips, including the requirements for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms; balconies and decks; and barbecues. Give your tenants at least a 72-hour notice that inspections may take place prior to the arrival of the inspector.  

  • Tenant Resources- Outlines information that includes:
    • Tenants - Instructions on how to secure necessary repairs from the property owner; handling rental disputes; how routine inspections are conducted; and a list of legal assistance resources.
    • Property Owners - Legal obligations for tenant relocation per the circumstances outlined in Municipal Code Part 11, including due to substandard housing conditions after the City issues a notice of violation.
