Welcome to the Code Enforcement Division. We are here to work with San José residents and businesses in maintaining safe, desirable conditions on private property in our community.

NOTE: Our services do not apply to issues on public streets, public grounds, or public property; for those issues, please use San José's 311 service. Please scroll to the bottom of this page for lists of the issues we do and don't handle.

Here are key ways to connect with us for service: 

  • To request service or check status of a case - Go to the Request Service & Check Status page.

  • Exterior inspections - To request non-emergency inspection of exterior conditions of a building or property, please use the Request Code Service form.

  • Interior inspections by video - Some interior inspections may be conducted through video on Zoom. See the "Remote Video Inspection Request and Consent Waiver" in EnglishSpanish, or Vietnamese.

  • If you have a case - To meet with a Code Inspector about a case or compliance work, schedule a virtual or in-person appointment: email CodeEnforcementInformation@sanjoseca.gov or call 408-535-7770. Or ask your assigned Code Enforcement Inspector to help you with scheduling.

  • Visit Code Enforcement in person - Make an appointment to meet with us at the 4th Floor window at City Hall. To schedule an appointment: email CodeEnforcementInformation@sanjoseca.gov or call 408-535-7770.

  • Fee Payment - Fees can be paid online at SJPermits.org. To pay a fee in-person at the City Hall Cashier Window, schedule your Finance Services appointment.
