Hello everyone, my name is Diego Ayala and I'm a 21-year-old college student. I was born and raised in San José my whole life and have been taught to help and care for others. I love this city deeply and I hope to contribute to help better it!

I am thrilled to be a part of the En Movimiento Community Advisory Group. I come to the En Movimiento Community Advisory Group as the Santa Clara County Advocate for the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition with a Master's in Urban and Regional Planning and Community Development and Design and a passion for all things community-focused. As a community organizer, I have nine years of experience advocating, researching, organizing, developing, and leading campaigns around societal issues such as Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety, Affordable Housing, Living Wage, Ethnic Studies, and accessible, affordable, and quality education.

I am a San José native and proud to have been raised in East San José, 95122. East San José has provided me with opportunities to give back to my community and has molded my career path. I am honored that I will be able to continue to do work that I am passionate about with En Movimiento.

I have been in the East Valley all of my 62 years (King and Alum Rock). I am a retired union ironworker. I have been active in our community since 7th grade, fighting to get Plata Arroyo Park built. I am currently working in the community with seven other neighborhoods to establish a working group representing about 58,000 people, trying to improve the quality of life here in the East Valley.

Hello! I was born and raised in San José and have been here all but two years of my life. I have lived in various parts of San José and love my home city. I have had a lifelong passion for bicycling, so I decided to advocate for safer streets for all types of uses.

Emanuel is a San José California native, working toward a master's degree in urban planning. He is also Co-founder to 501(c)3 Cultural Active Transportation Line San José established to promote and enhance public health, equity, and inclusive mobility in San José through affordable transportation, beautification, community engagement, cultural connections, personal safety, and traffic calming.

Matt Karnes has lived in San José for many years. As a boy he played in the walnut orchards that used to line McLaughlin Avenue and, for a little while, lived in the house built by San José's first fire chief. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Boston and is a proponent of the New Urbanism movement.

It is everyday folks just like you and me who are always looking out for our families, neighbors, and neighborhood safety. That's what keeps me committed to the causes that are dear to me. My CERT training has taught me that in the event of a major disaster, we will likely be "on our own" for the first 72 hours. So, instead of just looking at what is immediately in front of us in terms of neighborhood issues, I like to look forward into the future and prepare myself and other like-minded neighbors to keep us ALL safe and to have enough training to come to the aid of those who need immediate help. That is my commitment to myself, my family, my neighbors, neighborhood and City.

My name is Jesse Molina. I am the HOA president for the Carnegie Square community in Downtown San José. I also serve my community as a member of the Knights of Columbus. As a San José native, I look forward to being a part of this community advisory group.

Recently retired from the County of Santa Clara, Joan has had a longtime career of administrative support in the industries of telecommunications, hospitality, labor, and public service. She is active in community organizations seeking to improve quality of life issues in her neighborhood and throughout the City of San José. Joan serves as Chair for the District 3 Community Leadership Council and Friends of Five Wounds Trail. She is a Co-Chair of CommUniverCity, a partnership between underserved communities in Central San José, San José State University, and the City of San José.

My name is Michael Shalabi. I have grown up in San José for the majority of my life, living in neighboring cities for some time, but always returning back to San José. I studied civil engineering for both a bachelor's and master’s degree, and have recently returned back to California after graduating and spending eight years in Alaska. I am motivated in becoming involved with transportation projects in the city my family and I live in, and to help assist in the planning by providing my insights as a resident of San José and as a college graduate of civil engineering.

At VIVO’s top management level, Mr. Bao Trieu has been the Chairman of the Board and CEO for more than 15 years, leading VIVO and working with the Board of Directors through many roles as Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Committee Chairman, etc. since its founding in 1980.

With a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from San José State University, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Computer and Technology from Santa Clara University, Mr. Bao Trieu has been also acquiring additional training, certificates and experiences in many other fields such as Accounting and Financial Services, Financial Funds and Investment, Non-Profit Organization and Operations, Real Estate Appraisal and Investment, etc.. Mr. Bao Trieu possesses a wealth of broad and deep experience and skills in leading VIVO throughout the years and through many successful programs.

As current CEO of VIVO, besides setting the directions and missions of VIVO through the Board of Directors, Mr. Bao Trieu is also managing day-to-day operations of VIVO, leading the organization in running various programs with funding from local city, county and state governments, local charity foundations, and in partnership and/or collaborations with other local Community Based Organizations, as well as with self-funding from local donors and volunteers.

Davide Vieira has lived on the same block near Five Wounds Church since 1971. He is a member of several neighborhood advocacy groups, including Roosevelt Park Neighborhood Association, VTA’s Community Working Group for the 28th Street/Little Portugal BART Station, and Friends of the Five Wounds Trail. He was a founder of Cristo Rey San José Jesuit High School that serves under-resourced students in East San José. Davide retired in 2011 after working thirty years for an international technology company.

I have lived with my family in the Naglee Park neighborhood of downtown San José since 1997. I have been passionately involved with various transit-oriented projects impacting Downtown, including BART to San José first and second (current) community working groups, and the Downtown Access Study. I started commuting by bike and train over 20 years ago, until the recent pandemic. During the pandemic, I have been riding my bike almost every morning, since I don't have to commute anymore. Safely connecting key areas of San José such as business centers, residential areas, transit hubs, social and cultural centers, and recreational areas by bike and walk are important to a vibrant and exciting community.
