En Movimiento Quick-Strike Project

Project Description

In February 2020, the City of San José concluded En Movimiento: a Transportation Plan for East City of San José. The plan proposes infrastructure investments which support transit, walking, and bicycling in East San José. In early 2021, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) awarded San José $1.4 million to design and build seven transportation projects envisioned in En Movimiento.

The seven project corridors are:

  1. 21st Street (Roosevelt Park to William Street)
  2. William Street (Brookwood Avenue to Bonita Avenue)
  3. 28th Street and Bonita Ave (Santa Clara Street to William Street)
  4. 33rd Street (Melody Lane to E. San Antonio Street)
  5. Kammerer Avenue (King Road to Jackson Avenue)
  6. Sunset Avenue (Alum Rock Avenue to Lavonne Avenue)
  7. Jose Figueres Avenue, Scharff Avenue, and Packing Place (McKee Road to Kammerer Avenue)

The goal of this project is to make these streets safer and more inviting for people who walk and bike. The City needs community input to achieve this goal. Visit the Community Engagement section for opportunities to get involved in the design of East San José streets.

Designs

The 100% draft designs for the En Movimiento Quick-Strike Project are now available for review. We have created a video to walk you through the treatments included in the designs and to provide an idea of what they will look like once they are constructed. We recommend watching the video before reviewing the designs for each corridor.

Funding

This project is funded in part by a grant from the Safe and Seamless Mobility Quick-Strike program. This program is a one-time, competitive grant program within the One Bay Area Grant program (OBAG 2) framework. Federal funding is available to support local and regional projects that can be implemented quickly. These projects benefit communities responding and adapting to the COVID-19 environment.

Additional funding for this project comes from the City's annual Pavement Maintenance program.
